What’s New for the 2014 National History Day Contest

In only a few short weeks NHD will kick-off the annual Kenneth E. Behring National History Day contest! The NHD staff is in full gear preparing for the competition and all the other events that go on during the contest week, this year June 15 – 19.   We are excited are you? There are so many activities during the week and so much to remember, we want to help you make the most of your time here. For a full schedule of the contest week and all sorts of other important information visit the NHD website, www.nhd.org, and click on the colorful “Contest Registration and Information” button on the top left column.  Here are just a few notes on what you can expect this year:

  • The welcome ceremony, held on Sunday at 6:30 on McKeldin Mall, is a great way to kick of your week! Come with your fellow NHD enthusiasts and get ready to shout when your state or affiliate name is called!
  • Monday evening we have two events for students and teachers to have fun and relax. The Teacher Social will be held at Adele’s restaurant in Stamp Student Union from 7:30 – 10:30 PM. Come enjoy hor d’oeuvres and drinks and meet other NHD teachers from all over the world!  The Student Dance will be held in the Atrium from 7:30 – 10:30 PM. Students can let loose and meet new friends! (This is also a great time for button trading!)
  • Wednesday is packed with activities this year! First, one Exhibit entry from each affiliate has been chosen for display at the National Museum of American History. These will be on display from 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM. One Performance entry will also be chosen to perform during the VIP reception at the Museum in the evening. The museum will also be hosting “National History Night” once again, from 5:00 to 7:30 PM. Come out to see the Exhibits and enjoy the special attractions at the museum!

See you in June!
