The Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest is underway! Yesterday, the contest kicked off in a big way. Students from around the world showed up and checked-in at the Colony Ballroom in the Stamp Student Union at the University of Maryland.
Jim Harris, President of the Board, opened the 2014 contest and introduced the woman in charge Dr. Gorn. As usual, Dr. Gorn infused the crowd with her enthusiasm and exuberant “Happy History Day!” The interns for the year were introduced and sang a new NHD song that students will memorize in the years to come. Once Dr. Gorn finished jamming to the interns new tunes, she introduced this year’s keynote Dr. Amma Ghartey-Tagoe Kootin. The crowd fell silent as Amma delivered a heartfelt and inspirational tale of her own triumph and life-changing experience as an NHD student.
Today, judging starts! Get ready to show them what you got, but remember it the NHD is not about winning it’s about the transformation you make in the journey.
Good luck students and Happy History Day!
